ABOUT OREGON STATE HOSPTIAL RECREATION THERAPY PROGRAM The Recreation Therapy program operates in all areas of the hospital. Our treatment structure is based off of the treatment mall format—Patients sign up for a variety of therapy groups, work, education, or general recreation/activities (kind of like a college schedule). As Recreation Therapists we offer a variety of modalities including, but not limited to: Physical exercise, board/video games, animal assisted therapy, Sports, Outdoors, art, music, team building, community reintegration/life skills, and more. Because of this variety, interns are also given the opportunity to observe a variety of leadership styles by a number of CTRS’s, as well as how other disciplines plan and facilitate their treatment. Our 16 week program relies on completing all of the NCTRS task analysis items, and we regularly follow the APIED process. You will have the opportunity to observe a variety of groups/programs, co-lead groups, create your own programs, and experience community outings. You also will gain the knowledge and experience related to working with an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, discussing and creating goals/objectives for patient care, and completing a case study. The opportunity to intern is available all year, dependent on if there are CTRS staff available to supervise. If you have further questions please feel free to contact us. Come have a unique experience in a beautiful part of the country.

Shelly Severson, Director of Recreation Therapy
