2017 PNWTRA Board Members

Current President

 Jonathan Dennett, CTRS

Jonathan was born and raised around the Boise area of Idaho and went to college at Brigham Young University-Idaho.  He majored in Recreation Management, and began emphasizing in Recreation Therapy in 2009.  He finished his course work in 2011 and came to Oregon State Hospital to complete his internship in April 2012.  Since then Jonathan has received his CTRS certification, and began working at Oregon State Hospital as a permanent Recreation Therapist. Jonathan first heard about the PNWATRA from his internship supervisor, and joined the board in 2014. He served as treasurer until 2016 then became President Elect. It is an aspiration of his to get involved in the administrative side of TR, to advocate for the profession in Oregon, and educate the Oregon public on what Recreation Therapy is and does. Jonathan is an avid Fly Fisherman and outdoorsman, and he hopes to one day publish research on the therapeutic benefits of fly fishing and fly tying for the mentally ill or substance abuse populations. He also enjoys playing board games, survival/emergency prep, rock hounding, exploring science topics, creative writing, sports, homesteading, woodworking, spending time with his wife and three kids, and is the music coordinator for the children's program at his church.

An advocate for inclusion, Andy was actively involved with National Institute on Recreation Inclusion and has served a leadership role on a number of local/state/and national Therapeutic Recreation boards and committees including the Nation Therapeutic Recreation Society Board of Directors twice.  Andy is an avid cyclist and coffee drinker.  He has also been known to be a part-time cook, coach, home-brewer, adjunct professor, raft guide, former soccer player, mediocre snowboarder, frustrated musician, husband, father of three, international traveler, and occasional practical joker.  He volunteered to be president because it was time to put his money where his mouth was.
