Conference Rescheduled & New Location - Due to Inclement Weather

Conference Reschedule and new location!

Date: Friday, March 3rd

Location: Legacy Emanuael Hospital, Portland, Oregon

As I am sure most people in the Portland Metro Area know, snow and ice are expected in the next few days including Friday morning. Our venue this year is at a City of Portland property, which means our venue will most likely be closed on Friday.

We would also like to make sure that our conference attendees stay safe since driving in snow and icee conditions is not a strong skill for most people living in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, we know you are a wonderful driver, and its all those other drivers that might get in the way of you making it safely to our conference! ;)

Instead, we have decided to reschedule the conference for Friday, March 3rd. A new date, also means anew location, Emanuel Legacy Hospital. Thanks to everyone on the board, city of Portland staff, and Karen Wertheimer from Legacy (RIO Legacy is hiring for an on-call position) for working hard this morning to come up with a new date and location.

Everyone's registration will be transfered over to new date and location.

Please email us if you will not be able to attend and would like a refund. Refund requests must be received no later than three working days prior to the new conference date, Friday March 3rd, 2017 via bod@pnwatra.org to receive the full refund minus a $25 service fee.

Thanks for your flexibility & Stay Safe!

Call for Presenters

Pacific Northwest Therapeutic Recreation Association

Annual Conference

Friday, February 3, 2017

Greetings! The Board of Directors for Pacific Northwest Therapuetic Recreation Association invites submissions to present at our upcoming annual conference Friday, February 3, 2017 in Portland, Oregon. This conference provides annual continuing education and networking opportunities for professionals and students in Oregon, Southwest Washington, and surrounding states.

Conference Theme: Recreation Therapy: Making It Work For You”

Presentation Topic Suggestions:  Creative presentations that speak to the benefits of recreation therapy and adaptive recreation/sports for therapists and providers.  Suggested themes for development include: personal, innovation, fiscal, programs, professional, leadership, skills, clients, evidence based practice, and legislature.  Last year our theme addressed bridging gaps within the therapeutic recreation field.  This year we want to offer presentations that dig deeper into the internal benefits of what we “do” and impacts they have on us, our patrons and our field for the future.

Presentation Submission Deadline: November 18, 2017

Proposal Requirements:

  • Submit PNWTRA Presenter Application (click here for application)

  • Submit requests for accommodations, travel, presentation support, or speaking stipends - keeping in mind PNWTRA is a small grass roots organizations with limited resources.

Special Considerations: Web-based presentations will be considered and are strongly encouraged.

Proposal Submission: For questions and proposal submissions, please send required proposal documents to Andy Fernandez, PNWTRA President at pnwatra@gmail.com

Help Needed for Day at the Capitol!

PNWTRA needs volunteers to help coordinate a ‘Day at the Capitol’ in Salem next February during TR Month.
This event needs a team of 2 or 3 members to assist in the planning and implementation of a potential education session for members coupled with a legislative ‘meet and greet’ during the 2017 Legislative session.  The commitment most likely will be a series of 6 or so monthly conference call planning sessions and some homework in between. Interested parties should email pnwatra@gmail.com
